Statistics show that about 18% of women and 6% of men can be affected by a migraine. There are many reasons as to why it can happen.

Studies have shown that genetics, environment, lifestyle and diet can attribute to how often you get a migraine.

Diet is sometimes an overlooked factor when it comes to triggers because we often don't think about what we eat.

Common foods includes foods that were preserved that contains nitrates and nitrites such as aged cheese, cured meats, chocolate and smoked fish. Alcohol (red wine and beer) and artificial sweeteners are culprits as well.

Keep in mind:
Some foods can trigger a migraine immediately upon consumption while others can take up to 24 hours. It's better to keep a food diary if you can't pinpoint what is causing your episodes
